Wasim

Wasim is 9 years old. His young parents came with him from Iraq seeking treatment, since the medical facilities in Iraq had been devastated by sanctions and then by the ongoing war and occupation. Wasim has been mostly blind since birth, despite having had several surgeries in Jordan intended to improve his vision. His family needs support to help their son see clearly for the first time.

According to a recent medical report, Wasim’s doctor believes that experimental treatment outside of Jordan, which might include a digital implant in one of his eyes, might be his only hope for developing some vision.

DAI staff have access to Wasim’s most recent medical reports, and are in ongoing communication with his parents. We would be happy to work with a volunteer or group of volunteers who would be interested in working in their community to support Wasim by bringing him to an eye specialist for assessment and treatment.

Please contact us for further information on how you can support Wasim with the gift of sight.
