Update – Dr. Mohammad now hopes to receive drug treatment for abdominal tumor
Dr. Mohammad, the young Iraqi medical doctor who fled death threats in Iraq and now lives in Jordan, and who has a huge, benign abdominal tumor, has now learned that the tumor has grown so large that it is inoperable. Dr. Mohammad had hoped to have surgery to remove the tumor, and for the past six months, DAI team members have been working to bring him to the US or to Europe for surgery.
For months, DAI team members have been visiting Dr. Mohammad and seeing how his health is slowly deteriorating. The tumor has incapacitated him. It is, in fact, slowly killing him. The only hopeful treatment now is a course of drugs, using Tamoxifen citrate and Sulindac, a combination of drugs which has proven effective at reducing the size of tumors. The challenge, in addition to the cost, is the unavailability of Sulindac in Jordan. DAI team members in Jordan are seeking a source in the region for Sulindac, and hope that Dr.Mohammad will soon be able to begin treatment.
As soon as there is an update of Dr. Mohammad’s situation, DAI will post it.
