Mina: Update on First Surgery
Doctors performed a successful surgery on Mina, removing the tumors from her left eyelid, which were obstructing her vision in both eyes, and threatening to blind her left eye. This surgery will restore normal vision. Doctors also removed the ugly growths from her ears. DAI arranged and paid for this surgery.
After the surgery, Mina’s family (her parents and brothers) sent a message of thanks:
Countries and people are different. Only love makes us the same. We are very grateful to everyone who helped Mina. We will never forget your help. God bless you all.
Yasir, DAI’s assistant coordinator in Jordan, wrote the following about his visit to Mina’a house after the surgery:
When I met Mina & her family for the first time to collect information on her case, she was suffering from the tumors that she was born with. I noticed that she couldn’t see what was in front of her unless tilted her head very far forward, but even when she did this she would often fall down. When she fell, she sometimes hit the abnormal growth behind her head, which caused severe pain.
I also noticed that, because of her behavior and appearance, the children didn’t play with her. Maybe they were afraid of her.
Yesterday, I went with my wife to Mina’s relatives’ house for a birthday party. I saw Mina, who was recovering well, looking very different. She was wearing nice clothes, her hair had been cut in a lovely style, and she was playing with the same children who had earlier avoided her. This made me happy deep in my heart - when I saw her enjoying her childhood as we all used to do.
Mina continues to need surgery to repair the opening in the back of her head. Unfortunately, the partnering organization is no longer able to cover the cost of this surgery. Given this, DAI has made arrangements for this surgery, and is currently raising funds to pay for it. This surgery will cost $2,100 US Dollars.
